Composition, Arranging, and Orchestration
Educator, composer, arranger, and bassist
Jerry Gates has been a music industry professional for over
twenty-five years. His television and radio credits include
Bank of America, Log Cabin Syrup, Scope Mouthwash, Marlboro
cigarettes and music preparation for "The Dennis Miller Show,"
jazz great Bill Holman, and film composers Jack Smalley and
Richard Band. Currently, he is director of the Berklee Portfolio
Orchestra, and as a Professor, he teaches Contemporary Arranging,
Directed Studies in Arranging, Contemporary Twelve-Tone Composition,
Orchestration, Writing, and Production in the Studio and Music
Preparation courses at Berklee College. Jerry's most recently
completed projects include producing music for Nestle, writing
a book titled All Twelve, directing, composing and writing
arrangements for concerts featuring noted drummer Steve Smith
and Los Angeles studio bassist Neil Stubenhaus, and directing
annual student concerts at the Berklee Performance Center.
He holds a BM from Berklee College of Music and an MM from
the Hartt School, and graduated from both the Television/Film
Scoring and Composing/Arranging programs at the former Grove
School of Music in Los Angeles, CA.
